Dr. Gio Rapacciuolo is the founder and CEO at Elimia. His work involves leveraging cutting-edge approaches in data science to support biodiversity conservation practice and decisions. Dr. Rapacciuolo obtained his PhD in Biodiversity and Global Change from Imperial College London in 2013 and has held various academic positions and non-profit roles since. He has over 15 years of experience in biodiversity data science and ecological modeling and has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles in high-impact journals like Nature, Nature Ecology and Evolution, and Trends in Ecology and Evolution. Through his published work, Gio has contributed to developing the very methodological frameworks in use today to quantify biodiversity change over space and time. Most recently, he has served as Director of Applied Data Science at NatureServe where he has led activities to mobilize and model the most comprehensive dataset of imperiled animals and plants in North America. Throughout his career, Gio’s emphasis has been on making complex analyses and insights in biodiversity science accessible to all through the use of compelling visualizations and interactive tools.
